The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah, concluded his community outreaches for the third quarter of 2026 on Friday, 25th September, with a tour of communities in the Bonkrong electoral area, namely Bonkrong, Jetiase, and Tadieso.
Addressing Nananom and residents, the Hon. DCE expressed gratitude for their endorsement of the President's vision in the 2024 General Elections, which led to his nomination by the President and subsequent confirmation by Hon. Assembly Members as District Chief Executive. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing the critical socio-economic needs of residents.
Hon. Somuah highlighted ongoing projects in the District aligned with Central Government's disbursement guidelines under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), covering key sectors such as education, health, commerce, and sanitation, as well as the completion of stalled and abandoned government projects under the 'Legacy Projects' initiative.
The DCE informed community members of interventions by the Assembly, including petitions submitted to the Ministry of Works and Housing, stakeholder engagements, and feasibility studies conducted by the Ghana Water Company ahead of pipe-borne water extension works under Phase II of the 3K Water Project. He emphasized the need for collective commitment from residents to improve the Assembly's Internally Generated Fund (IGF) performance to complement Central Government's support for major infrastructural initiatives.
Hon. Somuah also announced the rollout of the government's Free Primary Healthcare programme, currently being piloted in the District, and encouraged all residents to register to benefit from the intervention. He further cautioned against violations of sanitation by-laws, warning that individuals who refuse to participate in communal sanitation exercises or fail to keep their animals in pens would be prosecuted.
Residents raised concerns including the deplorable state of community roads, potholes on tarred roads, rising petty theft and the need for enhanced police surveillance, support for community self-aid projects such as classroom blocks, CHPS compounds, teachers' quarters, social centres, and markets, the provision of classroom desks, refuse management challenges, youth unemployment, and the influx of undocumented foreigners. In response, the DCE pledged immediate interventions for road rehabilitation after the rainy season, reestablished contact with the contractor for the completion of the road project, and promised roofing sheets for the dilapidated canteen of Bonkrong D/A School.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Daniel Owusu, educated residents on revenue avenues the Assembly seeks to strengthen to enhance IGF generation, including payments for burial permits, building permits for residential and temporary structures, erection of billboards and banners, annual renewal of property rates, and structures erected on tombs in public cemeteries.
Nananom and residents expressed gratitude to the Hon. DCE and his team, voiced hope for major initiatives to address their concerns, and pledged their commitment to implementing the District Assembly's directives to enhance the District's development.
