The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah, continued his community engagement tour with visits to the Mpantuase, Achiase, Kwakye Dida and Amangoase communities on Friday, 11th September 2026.
The engagements provided a platform for constructive dialogue on various initiatives being implemented by the Assembly to address key developmental challenges across the District.
Addressing community members, Hon. Somuah conveyed the gratitude of the President and the entire management of the Assembly to Nananom and residents for their support and commitment to sustaining peace in the District.
He highlighted ongoing modifications by the Mahama-led administration regarding the disbursement of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and underscored the need for citizens to support the Assembly's efforts to explore all available revenue avenues and improve its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) performance. This, he noted, is essential to fulfilling the Assembly's commitment to implementing significant developmental policies and projects that enhance citizens' living standards.
Key issues raised during the engagements included support for the completion of community self-aid projects, water challenges, poor street lighting, deplorable roads and drainage systems, erroneous debits on ECG prepaid meters, mobile network connectivity challenges, enforcement of sanitation by-laws, teacher deficits in schools, youth unemployment, delayed releases of communities' share of Ceded Revenue by Town and Area Councils, and the need to improve the effectiveness of Town and Area Councils.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Boakye Boateng Lawrence, who opened the forum, emphasized the significance of improving the Assembly's IGF performance as a catalyst for local development. He urged Chiefs and community members to support revenue generation through the payment of levies, including property rates, burial fees, permit applications for residential and temporary structures, and business operating permits.
He also announced the Assembly's impending operation to remove stray animals from roads and cautioned rearers to construct pens to confine their animals and prevent them from straying into farms and gardens. He further encouraged residents to actively participate in the monthly communal sanitation exercises aimed at ensuring cleaner, healthier communities.
The Presiding Member indicated that the Assembly has resourced its task force to ensure strict enforcement of its by-laws and advised residents to fulfil their mandated roles to avoid falling victim to the law.
In response to concerns raised, the DCE gave assurances of consulting with relevant state agencies and departments to address the issues. He also donated packets of roofing sheets in support of some community self-aid infrastructural projects.
Hon. Somuah reaffirmed his strong commitment to ensuring good motorable roads across the District to facilitate the movement of goods and services and boost the local economy. He stated that the Assembly will continue to seek central government intervention through the Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ministry of Works and Housing for the construction of motorable roads and linking bridges to connect rural communities to market centres in the District capital. He further announced the Assembly's initiative to recruit additional revenue collectors on a commission basis and encouraged interested young people within the District to apply.
The engagements concluded with a mutual commitment by all stakeholders to support the developmental agenda for a prosperous District for all.
