The District Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Somuah, together with the management of the Sekyere Central District Assembly, has commenced the Assembly's scheduled community engagements for the third quarter of 2026. The engagements began in Beposo and Jansa on Wednesday, 9th September, 2026, as part of the Assembly's commitment to inclusive and participatory local governance.
Speaking at the commencement of the event, the Presiding Member, Hon. Lawrence Boakye Boateng, made a passionate appeal to Nananom and community members to prioritise and support the Assembly's revenue generation drive by fulfilling their civic obligations through the payment of various fees and tolls. He also announced the Assembly's initiative to arrest stray animals in response to complaints of farm crop destruction, urging animal owners to keep their livestock in pens to avoid falling foul of the law.
Hon. Boateng further emphasised the importance of a communal sense of responsibility and cautioned against persons who fail to participate in the monthly National Sanitation Day exercises, highlighting the repercussions for offenders. He concluded by educating the community on the mandate of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) in ensuring probity and accountability by the Assembly, its members, and staff.
The Nananom of the Beposo Traditional Council, in highlighting the major concerns of the community, raised critical issues requiring urgent attention from the District Assembly. These included the shortage of water and its adverse impact on social life; the completion of the Social Investment Fund (SIF) Market and Public Toilet Facility projects at Beposo; the rehabilitation of Beposo town roads and construction of the Beposo–Banko road project; poor street lighting, particularly along the Beposo Township–Ghana Muslim Mission SHS road stretch; the evacuation of refuse dumps at Kotokuom and Onoo and replacement of dilapidated refuse containers; assistance towards completing a toilet facility at Kotokuom; the deployment of additional police personnel to the Beposo Police Station; the posting of more teachers to basic schools in the township; and the clearing of weeds along the Beposo–Nsuta road stretch.
In response, Hon. Somuah expressed profound gratitude to Nananom and community members for their continued support since his assumption of office, and conveyed the acknowledgement of the President of the Republic to all community members, assuring them of government's commitment to implementing projects and policies that would significantly impact the socio-economic livelihoods of citizens. He also acknowledged the support of Hon. Assembly Members and the Town Council in strengthening local governance. Addressing the concerns raised, the DCE sensitised community members on the current disbursement of the District Assembly's Common Fund by the Mahama-led administration as a measure to avoid needless spending and ensure targeted improvement of citizens' social livelihoods.
The DCE announced several initiatives by the Assembly, including the extension of water to all communities in the District under Phase II of the 3K Water Project, which has commenced with feasibility studies conducted by the Ghana Water Company following an earlier petition by the Assembly to the Ministry of Works and Housing. He also mentioned the Assembly's prior initiative to report all stalled projects in the District to appropriate government outfits and promised to follow up to ensure their completion. He further assured of the rehabilitation of town roads, the evacuation of refuse dumps after the rainy season, and the provision of bulk refuse containers at refuse sites, as well as plans to procure solar lights for installation along major roads in response to security concerns. He applauded the Beposo Town Council's initiative to fund the patching of potholes along the Beposo–Nsuta road stretch and expressed the Assembly's gratitude for their commitment to partnership in the District's development.
At Jansa, the Presiding Member urged Nananom to urgently ensure the development of a Local Plan for the community and to include officials of the Physical Planning Department in the allocation of building plots to enhance good spatial planning. He also highlighted upcoming initiatives by the Assembly to strengthen its sanitation by-laws and cautioned against persons who perpetuate unsanitary acts, while emphasising the importance of paying various levies and tolls through the acquisition of permits and burial fees to enhance the Assembly's Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
In response to concerns raised at Jansa, Hon. Somuah donated packets of roofing sheets for the immediate renovation of the dilapidated roofing of the Jansa R/C Basic School and assured residents of the rehabilitation of community roads after the rains. He further assured of the distribution of classroom desks for kindergarten pupils during the next distribution of classroom furniture, and the inclusion of the award of a contract for the construction of a 3-Unit Classroom Block for the Jansa R/C JHS in the Assembly's next Action Plan. Nananom and community members were also encouraged to take advantage of available opportunities to seek aid from NGOs and benevolent philanthropists in support of the Assembly's local development initiatives.
The engagements concluded with a strong commitment by community members to perform their part in assisting the Assembly in attaining its development agenda for all citizens.
